Nuclear War on the Horizon

I’m sure “peaceful” isn’t the term most people would use to describe the past 75 years, but in truth, it has been just that.

Even with the Cold War we’ve managed to avoid great-power conflict.

But that’s not typical.

That’s not the way the world really works.

Open up any history book and you’ll find a ceaseless string of wars won and lost that stretches back millennia.

So we’re lucky to have lived in this period of peace, but we’d be naive to think it will last forever.

And this week we got a disturbing reminder of just how high the stakes are.

Because while Israel was running roughshod over the Gaza Strip and Ukraine finally admitted that its war with Russia has devolved into a bloody stalemate…

The Pentagon announced new plans for a next-generation nuclear gravity bomb.

It’s called the B61-13, as it’s the 13th variation of the B61 grav bomb.

The 13 will have a yield of up to 360 kilotons, as opposed to the 15-kiloton bomb dropped on Hiroshima and the 20-kiloton bomb dropped on Nagasaki.

To give you a better idea of the scale, here’s a map of the Hiroshima bomb overlaid on New York…

And here’s the B61-13…

Additionally, the nuclear fallout would bleed across New England…

So it’s pretty nasty and the hope is that we’ll never have to deploy it.

But of course, the reason it’s being built is because, well, we might.

Both Russia and China have been expanding their nuclear arsenals, building them out in terms of both mass and capability.

The Pentagon believes China’s nuclear arsenal has already surpassed 400 operational nuclear warheads — a level our government didn’t think they’d reach for another decade.

And in fact, China is building nuclear warheads at such a frenzied pace that they could have 1,500 by 2035.

In 2021, China launched approximately 135 ballistic missiles for testing and training — more than the rest of the world combined outside of conflict zones.

And also that year, the country tested a hypersonic glide vehicle that flew around the world in low Earth orbit for almost two hours before firing down on its target.

Russia has also deployed hypersonic weapons capable of carrying nuclear warheads. It has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal. And just this week, it withdrew from the global treaty banning nuclear weapons tests.

Russia also conducted a test of its nuclear capabilities this week, launching one ICBM from a test site in the country's far east and another from a nuclear-powered submarine in the Barents Sea.

So now ask yourself: Why is every major country in the world building up their nuclear weapons arsenal?

It’s because we’ve slipped back into an arms race of the sort not seen since WWI. Russia and China have shed all pretense of cooperation and coexistence.

They’re not even hiding their intentions anymore. There’s no reason to. They’re being clear and transparent about their motives and plans.

They’re explicitly saying that the current global order, dominated by the United States, doesn’t work for them. And they aim to topple it.

This is what I mean when I say WWIII is already here. Everybody is gassing up for it.

China, Russia, the United States, Europe… Everybody is loading up and bracing for the big one.

That’s why I ride defense contractors so hard as investments. They’ve been huge for me these past few years as Russia repeatedly attacked its neighbors.

They were huge for me last month when Hamas attacked Israel.

And they’re must-owns for every single American because they’re the only stocks that are going to thrive when great-power conflict breaks out in full.

Because as we’re seeing, the best defense is a good offense.

Fight on,
